UPDATE!

I am aware, ashamedly so, that I have neglected this blog even after I made a banal resolution on my list of thirteen to maintain it, tend it with love and care, and insert thirty other meaningful statements about how to have a "nice blog." HELLO! It's been a while sort of, and I'm currently in my third week of the second semester. It is a whirlwind of existential crisis's(? i guess that's correct), long days full of unproductive/35% efficient days, kindling reunions with good company, etc. etc. I'm adjusting better to this so-called college life, still yearning for my cats and bed back at home- but Boston is okay minus the below zero temperatures and other tundra-esque conditions. I've actually been in a massive dry spell lately that's kind of grappling w/ creative intuition lately.
Though, I've started to write again, read more, complain less. I feel like I'm desperately in need of a jogging cleanse, wanting so desperately to run outside, but I mean.. I guess homeostasis is somewhat essential too. Before I get too off course, I wanted to unveil some new projects:

1. HELLO! My name is YJ Lee, and I am an 18/F/Boston based student, phototaker amateur extraordinaire who would like to start an online magazine consisting of a hodgepodge of topics such as: current events, fashion, contemporary literature, opinion, photography. I think it's important for girls (and boys, too) who have completely heterogeneous ideas to come together in order to learn something new and think about what they love and why they love these things more than others. It will include a wide arrange of topics and will never be limited to a select range. If there's something you love, then write about it here. A new album release that you don't want to tweet about? A controversial issue that you swing both sides on different days, agree with one more than the other when one specific example is mentioned, but when someone says this and that about it,  your head explodes and you feel like you need to be one of the 453 CNN comments arguing your point without feeling judged?  Contact me at ThatxThisMag@gmail.com

working on a new series.

circa 2011. i've been cheating lately and have finished half-started poems from around january of last year instead composing entirely new ones. i've been writing ideas around poems about industrial buildings and architecture lately, and i'll post some finished products after i have some time to work out some lines and what not. finals week has begun.

some art + updates

Fractal art is a new type of digital art that is taking the community in storm. It is not drawn OR painted, but generated through mathematical software based off of calculations. Lololol at the fact that I ~*created*~ some pretty amateur flowers and prisms in my senior year calculus class, and we all thought we were the second comings of Picasso and Monet, but this artist, Silvia Cordedda is brilliant. Her work is abstract and distinct, with each color delineating a convergence or a divergence that's mysterious and ethereal.
And in other really pertinent news, today is PEPERO DAY! It's a holiday in South Korea that sounds more like a marketing scheme than an actual day to commemorate anything important, but hey, if a random boy with luscious locks equipped with a mixed CD/toblerone/pepero came knocking on my door, I wouldn't slam the door on his face. I'm actually sad that I'm not home to go on a last minute run to H-Mart with my cousins to buy pepero for each other. One more week until I'll be off to PHILADELPHIA for Thanksgiving break and be reunited with my beautiful family!!

STUDY TIPS from the antichrist of productivity

This first semester of college has really been a test of time management skills and balancing a social life/maintaining a high GPA. Throughout high school, I did not partake in this clandestine activity known as studying (that's actually like a drug to some students,) but I still managed to "get by" and live my life in my bed with a plate of double stuffed Oreo's and full seasons of MSCL, Twin Peaks, and Freaks and Geeks. I've made a complete 180 though and I manage to actually sit down, get work done, and still have the time to sob in the late hours of the nights as my heart and soul are completely riveted by terse Youtube clips of Austrian's most talented. ANYWAYS, I actually have had some time doing trial & error to compose this ULTIMATE GUIDE OF STUDYING that will surely (hopefully) boost up that GPA!

1. Silent space//ICELANDIC music
I could never get any work done ever when there was music in the background, because I get so captivated by the lead singer's lyrics and the story that's forming into bits and pieces as solubility rules dissolve and a love story unfolds. I've recently ***yesterday*** realized that Icelandic music is PERFECT for studying because a) you most likely don't understand Icelandic b) it is the music from the gods and you need that extra help if you want to get that A++. My friend is a huge fan of Icelandic music and has this insane list of Icelandic bands that he doesn't share with any inhabitant on this Earth, but he told me about this awesome band, Rokkurro. I've been a fan of post rock for a few years now, but I actually got into Icelandic postrock last year. I know "Icelandic" isn't a genre TECHNICALLY, but it really should be. I don't know what exactly goes down in the beautiful country of Iceland, but we as a member of the human race should feel blessed to have such phenomenal music in our civilization. I saw Sigur Ros last summer, and let me just tell you, there is no other way to experience MAGIC than a summer night almost under an Icelandic sky, except for the fact that you're surrounded by a bunch of middle aged hipsters who are either elegantly homeless or proving that showers are mainstream.
2. Go to the Library. Or a cafe. Your own desk could work too. Try changing your study space up too.
I am a frequent clubber of Snell, but sometimes I like to mix it up and visit Pavement, stay pent up in my own dorm room, go to the closet adjacent to my bed, and focus for a few hours. It's good to be alone when you're studying, because distractions are imminent without two friends singing/dancing/singing&dancing.
3. Intervals.
Nough said
4. Avoid procrastination
I hate going through an exam and knowing that I could have done better if I had actually studied a day or two earlier than ya know, the night before. It's detrimental to my soul & there isn't a chicken noodle soup for the "weak who procrastinated but could have, should have, would have gotten an A."
5. Make wise decisions and happy studying!

I am currently in the midst of an epic- one girl and her two room mates(one close friend who actually lives in a different building, but that's beside the point) are emotionally prepping themselves to be locked up in a room for 24+ hours and accomplish a lot of school work. Good news is that my classes are cancelled which means that I have a four day weekend now since I don't have classes on Tuesdays. I had a really fun/laid back weekend with good company that included a short photo shoot @ Boston Commons, Pitch Perfect viewing, Halloweekend fun, and the Boston Book Fair!

I ordered books via betterworldbooks and they arrived on Saturday, so I think I'm going to spend a fair amount of time reading when my exams next week are over! I haven't gotten into Haruki, but I've heard only good things about his writing so I ordered three books that my friends have recommended.
In other relevant news, I found the scripture of my life and found wrenching salvation at a used books tent (+3 cool pins) and it's the perfect blend of humor and relevance. The Misanthrope's Guide to Life is the reason for my existence at the moment, and I've dedicated my life as a devout follower.

Pitch Perfect was surprisingly hilarious, and it referenced so many things I love that it was just a ball of fun the entire time. Kind of sad that I can't party it up at Club Snell, because of Sandy, but ya can't get what you want all the time..
